"57 But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory
through our Lord Jesus Christ. 58 Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the
Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in
vain in the Lord."

Dr. King
Shares 12th Street
Council approves artery's co-naming
BY CINDY SCHROEDER
After 17 years of
lobbying, Northern Kentucky supporters of the
Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. will have a street
named for the slain civil rights leader.
Members of Covington City Commission voted 5-0
Monday to co-name a major artery 12th
Street/Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.
The audience packed in commission chambers
responded with an standing ovation.
Within a week, installation of signs bearing
the new street name should begin, said Jim
Eggemeier, Covington's public works director.
Unlike the previous four attempts to name a
Northern Kentucky street for King, this time
the effort had the backing of 22
organizations, including the NAACP, Covington
Schools, the Northern Kentucky Chamber of
Commerce and the Interdenominational
Ministerial Alliance. The co-naming of 12th
Street to honor King also was pushed by Vision
2015.
Co-naming the soon-to-be-redesigned street
means that 12th Street property owners can
keep their numerical addresses - which had
been a point of contention in the past with
business owners who said it would be too
costly to change their addresses and
letterheads.
